Zendaya Says She Would Consider Releasing New Music: ‘Maybe One Day’

Zendaya has been busy starring in blockbuster movies like Dune: Part Two and Challengers, but the actress said she is open to returning to her music career. In a new interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Zendaya explained why she stopped making music and hinted at the possibility of new songs.

“I love music, and it’s something that’s been special to me,” she told host Jennifer Hudson. “I think being in the music industry, maybe it — it didn’t kill the joy of music, but it’s when you put music and business together, sometimes it cannot feel so good.”

She added, “I think if the right timing and it came [naturally]. Because I like creating it for myself, but if there was a moment, maybe I would put out a little something. Don’t get crazy! We’ll see, but maybe one day.”

The actress also talked about performing at Coachella with Labrinth last year, which was a surprise appearance. She explained that at first she said “Absolutely not” to the opportunity because of her stage fright. “I have bad memories of performing live when I was a kid,” she told Hudson. She ultimately decided she couldn’t “hide” from that forever, telling herself, “You’re going to want to be on a stage and perform live once in your life at least.”

In 2016, she collaborated with Chris Brown on single “Something New.” She has since focused on recording songs for her film and TV projects, including The Greatest Showman and Euphoria. She appeared alongside Dominic Fike on “Elliot’s Song,” which arrived in 2022.

The tune, penned by Zendaya and Labrinth, featured prominently in the final episode of the show’s second season as Fike’s character, Elliot, broke out the ol’ acoustic guitar and serenaded Zendaya’s character, Rue, as the pair made amends.

After the success of “Elliot’s Song,” Zendaya thanked fans for their support. She wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “I stepped away from music quite a while ago, for a number of reasons, but I still really love it, so the kindness and support I’ve received the past few days just for a little tiny toe dip back into some music means the absolute world to me.”
