Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson Netflix Documentary Reportedly Scrapped Following Alleged Altercation
A documentary project centered on former One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson has reportedly been scrapped following allegations of a physical altercation between the two artists. The project, which was intended to provide fans with an intimate look at their lives as they reconnected, appears to have been abandoned in the wake of the reported incident.
Last October, reports surfaced suggesting that Netflix was producing a three-part docuseries following the singers as they embarked on a spontaneous adventure across the United States. The series was set to be directed by Nicola Marsh, known for her work on the Netflix version of Song Exploder. While Netflix never officially confirmed the project, recent developments indicate that the production has been halted.
Reports of an Altercation
A report published by The Sun on Friday, April 17, alleged that a physical confrontation occurred six months ago. According to the report, the altercation took place after Malik allegedly made a remark regarding Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah, who passed away from leukaemia in 2016 at the age of 43.
The newspaper cited a source claiming that Malik “punched him straight in the face,” with the impact of a ring causing a cut to Tomlinson’s head. The source further alleged that Tomlinson was left in shock and required medical treatment for a concussion. Neither Malik nor Tomlinson has issued a public statement regarding these claims.
Production Halted
Shortly after the report was published, director Nicola Marsh shared the headline on her Instagram Stories, accompanied by the caption: “And there goes the last year of work.”
The documentary was intended to build upon the momentum of the pair’s recent public reunion, which included Tomlinson making an appearance during Malik’s show in Los Angeles in January 2025. This had been their first significant public interaction since the funeral of their former bandmate, Liam Payne, in November 2024.
As of now, both artists are focusing on their respective solo careers. Malik released his fifth solo album, Konnakol, on April 16, and is scheduled to begin an accompanying tour in Manchester on May 12. Tomlinson, who released his third solo album, How Did I Get Here?, in January, has recently spoken about his growth and newfound confidence as a solo performer.
