Young M.A thinks the current state music is stale and is missing something to spice things up a bit.
On Monday (February 24), the “Oooouuu” rapper took to Twitter to voice her opinions on what could be done to bring balance to the music industry. “Music don’t feel the same because we barely have R&B,” she tweeted. “R&B brung that balance to music.. now everything is leanin one way smh so it gets played out quick! We need R&B for the balance no kap!”
She also used her Instagram to further explain her opinion on R&B bringing a balance adding she hardly listens to rap these days.
“The krazy thing is all I listen to is R&B! New and Old! I barely listen to rap,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m just saying we need to shine more light on R&B as much as we shine light on rap/trap music so we can keep that balance! Before it was HipHop&R&B! We need that vibe back.”
This isn’t the first time a rapper has mentioned the music scene has gotten repetitive. Wiz Khalifa spoke on new rappers using other artists’ flows instead creating their own in 2013 and Russ blamed producers for Hip Hop lacking creativity in an interview with VladTV three years ago. But the R&B genre had a huge year in 2019 with releases by some the hottest singers and songwriters.
Summer Walker earned the biggest sales week for a female R&B singer with her debut album Over It last year. It was the first time a woman achieved the feat since Beyoncé did it with Lemonade in 2016. Tory Lanez — on the other hand — notched the biggest sales week his career with the early 2000s R&B-inspired Chixtape 5. Let’s not forget H.E.R. earning the No. 7 spot on implurnt’s best R&B albums 2019 list and five Grammy nominations for the compilation album I Used To Know Her.
