Described by the band as a “soaring, romantic anthem,” the track captures a sense of intimacy and reflection. Frontman Austin Williams explained that the song’s origins were organic, born from late-night sessions in their label’s studio. “‘Mud’ was born in our label’s studio, where we would meet up and jam with no real pressure or goal, just friends playing music together and expressing ourselves the only way we know how,” Williams shared.

He continued, “The chorus came to me, which I immediately thought was too good for it to be an original thought; it’s like seeing a magic trick and being told it’s actually magic, no trick. With all the other things going on in our lives, I often forget that the one constant thing is the love I have for my wife every day. This song is about that.”

‘Mud’ was produced by Bill Ryder-Jones, who previously collaborated with the band on their 2024 effort, There’s A Big Star Outside. Guitarist J.J. Buchanan noted the collaborative effort required to finalize the track, particularly the instrumental outro, which he described as a “three-month-long battle” to align the band’s creative vision.

The upcoming album, Hum, is set to explore themes of life, loss, and love. Williams has previously hinted that the record reflects a period of personal growth and transition for the group. Following the album’s release, the band is set to embark on a UK headline tour this autumn, with dates scheduled in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham, Cardiff, and London.
