Suga Was Ready to ‘Run Away’ From BTS Training in ‘Monuments’ Docuseries Trailer
The Bangtan Boys may be starting a hiatus as they enlist in the military, but they’re leaving their fans with a special treat in the meantime. On Tuesday, BTS dropped the main trailer for their upcoming BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star docuseries, which premieres on Disney+ on Dec. 20.
The upcoming eight-part docuseries is set to celebrate the group’s 10-year history, following the group as they become “21st-century pop icons,” according to a synopsis. The trailer showcases some of the group’s earliest training and choreography practices, along with a snapshot of their success in recent years.
As BTS’s record label Hybe said in a press release, the in-depth look into their journey will offer a “glimpse into the countless obstacles and challenges the band encountered in reaching their global career-defining milestones, as well as the members’ daily lives and inner thoughts.”
“We worked our tails off, life was difficult,” says RM in the trailer.
“I was going to run away, for real,” adds Suga.
The trailer highlights the group as they were awarded trophies at awards shows and headlined massive shows across the world. It captures the musicians finding out their concerts had been canceled amid the pandemic, and later how they “felt lost as the days went by. It also showcases the singers on their BTS: Permission to Dance stadium tour.
After its December 20th debut, BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star will release two new episodes each Wednesday.
The new trailer comes a week after BTS’ label confirmed that Jimin, Jung Kook, V, and RM had officially started the military enlistment process. The four members had recently been working on solo music.
Jimin dropped his solo Production Diary documentary — about making his mini-album Face — in late October, Jung Kook dropped LP Golden earlier this month, V released project Layover in September, and RM dropped LP Indigo in December 2022.
“We ask you for your continued love and support for RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook until they complete their military service and safely return,” the message read. “Our company will spare no effort in providing support for our artists. Thank you.”
Jin signed up for the military in December 2022, while Suga started his 18-month commitment in September 2023. Big Hit announced J-Hope’s enlistment in February. The group will complete its service requirement over the next several years, with BTS’ hiatus expected to last through 2025.
