Metallica Announce 'Reload (Remastered)' Deluxe Box Set

Metallica have officially announced the upcoming release of Reload (Remastered), a definitive new package that promises to delight long-time fans with a treasure trove of unreleased material and archival content. The thrash metal icons are scheduled to reissue their seventh studio album on June 26 via Blackened Recordings.

Originally released to massive commercial success, Reload solidified the band’s status as global heavyweights, featuring enduring anthems such as ‘Fuel’, ‘The Unforgiven II’, and ‘The Memory Remains’. This new iteration has been meticulously remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering, with oversight from Greg Fidelman, ensuring the sonic quality matches the weight of the material.

The release will be available in various formats, including standard 180g 2LP, a Wal-Mart exclusive colour 140g 2LP, CD, 3CD Expanded Edition, cassette, and digital. However, the centerpiece of this announcement is the Reload Remastered Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set. This one-time numbered pressing is a massive 15-CD collection containing unheard extra riffs, B-sides, rarities, and live performances. Additionally, the box set includes four DVDs featuring television appearances, behind-the-scenes footage of the band’s travels to Seoul, and more.

Beyond the audio and visual components, the deluxe set offers a deep dive into the era’s memorabilia. Fans can expect a collection of 13 Rorschach Test cards, an 11×17 ‘Gimme Fuel’ poster, a Pushead print, a 10-pack of guitar and bass picks, original lyric sheets, three laminated tour passes, and a 128-page book filled with never-before-seen photography and personal stories from those who were present during the album’s creation.

This announcement follows a busy period for the band, who recently extended their residency at the Las Vegas Sphere into March 2027 due to overwhelming demand. Drummer Lars Ulrich has expressed his enthusiasm for the residency, noting that the venue offers a unique opportunity to reinvent the band’s live interaction with their audience.

Before their return to Las Vegas, Metallica are set to embark on a UK and European tour, including two high-profile nights at the London Stadium this July. The band also continues to look toward the future, with guitarist Kirk Hammett recently revealing that he has already compiled hundreds of new riffs for the group’s next studio project, following the success of their 2023 album, 72 Seasons.
