Things are looking better for these days, given the circumstances. He’s currently behind bars but he received some good news this week when the Miami-Dade State Attorney office dropped the state-level gun charges against him. However, his lawyer has now given a new update that revealed that he could be out of prison by next year.

According to TMZ, Kodak’s attorney Bradford Cohen is hopeful that Kodak will be released to a halfway house come 2021 where he’ll serve the remainder of his sentence. Though he’s currently eligible to do so, there’s one thing he must complete first — a court-ordered 500-hour drug treatment program. 

Here’s where the problem is for Kodak — the prison he’s currently at right now doesn’t have the program, according to Cohen. But not all hope is lost in the situation. Since the 3 felony counts of possession of a firearm by an individual under 24 have now been dropped, Cohen said that Kodak can be transferred to a lower-security prison where he can enlist in a drug treatment program.

As to why the three counts of felony possession of a firearm were dropped, Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, said, “felt that the [state] charges were a duplicate of the federal charges for which [Kodak Black] had already been convicted and is currently serving his sentence.”
