Keith Urban Drops New Single ‘Messed Up As Me’

The track comes weeks after releasing “Straight Line” earlier in February

Keith Urban has dropped a second single for his upcoming 12th album, releasing “Messed Up As Me” on Friday.

The new track follows the upcoming album’s lead single “Straight Line,” which dropped at the beginning of February and hinted at his first album in four years.

As Urban said, “Messed Up As Me” is about toxic relationships that aren’t easy to get out of. The single’s artwork itself shows a somewhat racy image of a couple hooking up in the back of a pickup truck driving down the highway. Along with Urban, the single was produced by the singer’s longtime collaborator Dan Huff, who has produced most of Urban’s music since Golden Road in 2002.

“Most of us have been in dysfunctional relationships before, where there’s not a lot of compatibility, except for that one area where it’s so good you put up with all the rest,” Urban said of the new song in a statement. “A phone call or a night out and you’re right back where you shouldn’t be.”

Urban’s last album, The Speed of Now Part 1, came out in 2020. The new album, expected to drop sometime later this year, is still unnamed. While Urban hasn’t released an album since Part 1, he has dropped several one-off singles including “Wild Hearts,” “Night Falls,” and “Brown Eyes Baby.”

When he released “Straight Line,” Urban said that each song on the upcoming LP “carries an energy and a life force that became a very strong through line. I hope you feel it. I’m so excited for everyone to hear the whole thing.”
