Hayley Williams Reflects on First Solo Tour: "A Teenaged Dreamer with Dark Circles"

Hayley Williams has shared a candid reflection on her inaugural solo live tour, describing the experience as one that “turned me back into a night owl” and a “teenaged dreamer with dark circles.” The Paramore frontwoman recently concluded a successful run of North American headline shows, wrapping up in Los Angeles before a standout performance at the 2026 Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City.

The tour serves as a live showcase for her 2025 album, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party. As she prepares for an upcoming leg of UK and European dates—including two nights at London’s Roundhouse this June—Williams took to her Substack ‘Live Journal’ to process the intensity of life on the road.

Finding Hyper-Presence on the Road

“Tour turned me back into a night owl. Back into a teenaged dreamer with dark circles. But tour had me up every morning at 8:45, no alarm,” Williams wrote. She described a newfound hunger for her daily life, noting that she has been “gorging on future memories” and practicing a state of “hyper-presence.”

Reflecting on the cyclical nature of her career and personal growth, she added, “There are so many funerals and weddings to attend in our minds over the course of one lifetime. There’s only so many life-death-life cycles one can take before the body will finally request a coma.”

I’ve tried on occasion, over the last 2 months, to make myself work out in writing what current growing pains and pleasure feel like. What I would want to remember most about these days.

Williams, who has been adjusting to life back home, noted that while she enjoys the comfort of her own bed, the energy of the tour was equally vital. She also shared a poignant observation about the difficulty of communication, referencing Björk: “She said something once in an interview about how language and communicating was like trying to put the ocean through a straw. I think I am the ocean.”

A New Chapter for Hayley Williams

The tour has been marked by high-profile collaborations, with recent Los Angeles shows featuring guest appearances from Jenny Lewis, Julien Baker, Jack Antonoff, and Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast. These moments underscore the collaborative spirit of her latest work.

Looking back at her transition into a solo artist, Williams previously addressed the anxieties surrounding her departure from the Paramore sound. “I felt a lot of anxiety about… do people want a crazy big pop record?” she told NME in 2020. “When I ended up writing some songs that were poppier and dancier like ‘Dead Horse’, it was like, ‘Oh shit – am I a sell-out?’”

With Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party receiving critical acclaim, it is clear that Williams has successfully navigated those fears, embracing a new chapter that feels both authentic and bold.
