CeCe Peniston, Chubb Rock, Nice & Smooth, more playing free Rise Up NYC concerts this summer

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the return of the Rise Up NYC series, which is presenting eight free hip hop and R&B concerts happening across all five boroughs in July and August. The series kicked off Wednesday (7/19) in Wingate Park with Luciano, Edwin Yearwood, and more, and artists playing the remaining seven shows include  CeCe Peniston, Chubb Rock, Nice & Smooth, C&C Music Factory, Brenda K. Starr, Funkmaster Flex, K. Michelle, Stokely (of Mint Condition), and more.

“Resuming July 19th, New Yorkers will gather together and partake in the music and culture that keeps our city moving,” said Mayor Adams in a statement. “Rise Up NYC’ grows comradery among New Yorkers and enjoy the city we call home. Music and the arts are a lifeline for our city, and we are going to hit the right notes and turn the dial up to 11 this summer. We invite all New Yorkers to join us to celebrate the energy of this city through the shared joy of music.”

Thursday, July 20 at Wingate Park (Brooklyn): K. Michelle, Stokley of Mint Condition, Chubb Rock, Scorpio & Surprise Guests, and Nice & Smooth. 5:30 Doors.

Thursday, July 27 at Midland Beach Parking Lot 8 (Staten Island): France Joli, CeCe Peniston, Johnny Q, C&C Music Factory, Brenda K. Starr, Seduction, Noel, Coro, Frankie Cutlass, Alisha, Angelo Venuto, Kim Sozzi, Nocerra, Monet, Pretty Poison, Strafe, Aly-us, Tommie Nappi, and hosted by WKTU’s Steve Bartel.  5:30 Doors.

August’s lineup haven’t been announced, but the shows happen August 9 & 10 at Orchard Beach in the Bronx, August 16 & 17 at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, and August 19 at West 135th & Lenox Terrace Place in Manhattan.
