Boebert Claims She Was Booted from ‘Beetlejuice’ for Being ‘A Little Too Eccentric’
Rep. Lauren Boebert addressed the incident where she was kicked out of a Denver performance of the musical Beetlejuice, claiming in an interview with One America News that she was removed from the theater for being “a little too eccentric.”
That’s certainly one way of framing it. Theater surveillance footage from last Sunday shows Boebert recording part of the performance and vaping, prompting a pregnant audience member to tap the congresswoman on the shoulder in an apparent attempt to ask her to stop. Video also shows Boebert exchanging words with the audience member. Several patrons lodged complaints, and Boebert was asked to leave the theater and responded, “Do you know who I am?” according an incident report from the city obtained by 9News Denver. The report said that two individuals were asked to leave the performance because they were “vaping, singing, causing a disturbance.”
Boebert’s campaign initially denied she had been vaping in the theater, but the congresswoman later issued an apology that stated she “genuinely did not recall vaping that evening.” She blamed her “public and difficult divorce” for her behavior. “I simply fell short of my values on Sunday,” she said.
But Boebert was less apologetic during her One America News appearance and didn’t even mention vaping. “I was a little too eccentric,” Boebert told OAN host Dan Ball on Saturday. “I’m very known for having an animated personality, maybe overtly animated personality. I was laughing, I was singing, having a fantastic time, was told to kinda settle it down a little bit, which I did, but then, my next slip up was taking a picture.”
“So you got thrown out for taking a picture when you weren’t supposed to,” Ball said.
“There was no arguing,” Boebert replied. “There’s reports saying that I was arguing, threatening to call the Denver mayor. I don’t know why I would ever call the Denver mayor. I think he would have tried to lock me up. There were reports saying I’m on the board of something. I don’t know what I’m on the board of. I’m on the edge of a lot of things, let me tell ya.”
The OAN host then claimed that liberals in Denver might have complained about the congresswoman because they recognized her as “that MAGA girl.”
“Here’s what I’m thinking,” he said. “You’re in Denver, Lauren. It’s very liberal. The people that complained to the ushers that you’re being noisy could have recognized you and been like, ‘Oh, that’s that MAGA girl.’ Yeah, exactly. You know how they are.”
But it seems pretty clear from the footage that Boebert was targeted for her raucous and rude behavior at the family-friendly performance rather than for her politics.
