Post-punk band will open for the 1975 this spring

Rising band Been Stellar have announced their debut album, Scream From New York, NY, out via new label Dirty Hit on June 14th.

The NYC-based band have celebrated their album announcement with the brutal new single “Passing Judgement,” a steely post-punk track that comes with a frenetic video with footage of the band playing live. “Passing judgment without home/Passing judgment without home/Use the head, abuse the heart/If I see that’s how I start,” vocalist Sam Slocum belts on the chorus.

“We were finishing ‘Passing Judgment’ in the midst of our first tour in the UK,” Slocum shared in a statement. “Playing through it a bit differently each show, we were learning to look at the song from different angles. The recording feels live because of this process — there’s a chaotic feeling in the drums and bass that wouldn’t be there if we hadn’t finished writing it live. Lyrically I was thinking about why we judge the world around us, and how passing judgment on someone or something is usually rooted in being unsure in oneself.”

This spring, Been Stellar will open for labelmates the 1975 on the European leg of their tour. They will then play a string of festival dates this summer, including Shaky Knees in Georgia as well as Great Escape and Latitude in the UK. Previously, Been Stellar has opened for Fontaines DC, Shame, and Interpol.
