Over a chattering vocal sample and speaker-rattling beat, Friday raps on pleasure and pain with words as measured as an incantation: “I got smoke, I take it slow/Don’t beat your chest, just bend your knees.”

Where her earlier music jolted with abrasive noise, “Runnin” oozes swagger and confidence. But Friday doesn’t strip away the corrosive elements entirely; the song’s spare, lurching synths make an easy stomping ground for her brisk, focused rapping.
