The 2024 edition of NYC Winter Jazzfest, which is celebrating its 20th season, runs January 10-18 at venues all over the city. Shabaka Hutchings, whose bands Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming have both gone on permanent hiatus, is this year’s Artist in Residence and will make six appearances, including performances with esperanza spalding, Saul Williams, Jason Moran, Joe Lovano and more.

The rest of the initial 2024 lineup also includes a Ryuichi Sakamoto celebration, sets from both Moor Mother, Irreversible Entanglements (of which Moor Mother is also a member), Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons, Georgia Anne Muldrow, MonoNeon, Hannibal Buress, Saul Williams, Marc Ribot, Rafiq Bhatia, Jose James, Brandee Younger, Carl Hancock Rux, Carlos Niño, DJ Spooky, Elucid, Gilles Peterson, Joe Lovano, Laraaji, Mary Halvorson, Thomas Fujiwa, Hess is More, Abiodun Oyewole (The Last Poets), Natural Information Society, Steve Gunn, Shahzad Ismaily, The Jazz Passengers, The Messthetics, Matana Roberts, Joel Ross, Zoh Amba, Alex Zhang Hungtai / Che Chen / Leo Chang, “The Harvest Time Project: A Tribute to Pharoah Sanders w/ Tisziji Munoz & Joshua Abrams,” and more.

There will be two separate Marathon nights where a pass allows you to jump from venue to venue: Manhattan on January 12 and Brooklyn on January 13. Tickets for both Marathons are currently on Early Bird presale through Wednesday, October 25 at 10 AM.
