Watch Carrie Underwood’s 2023 ‘Sunday Night Football’ Opening
The country superstar strutted her way through “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night”
Carrie Underwood kicked off the 2023 season of Sunday Night Football with a rousing rendition of “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” Her performance found her strutting the catwalk and behind the drum kit. This marks the country star’s 11th consecutive season as the voice of NBC’s Sunday evening NFL game.
“Once again, the incredible Sunday Night Football team came up with a fresh, exciting visual concept that really gave us a chance to play,” Underwood said in a statement. The sensory-overload opening featured the “Out of That Truck” singer performing in concert from Las Vegas. “I loved shooting the show open again this year at our home away from home, The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, and can’t wait for another season of football!” she said. Sunday Night Football’s Week 1 matchup featured the New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys.
Underwood has been seemingly everywhere of late and dropped a deluxe edition of her album Denim & Rhinestones. Last month, she joined Guns N’ Roses onstage in Nashville to perform “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City” with singer Axl Rose, and also opened the show, her third stop on GN’R’s summer tour. Underwood’s set included her own material along with covers like Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” and “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett (whose “I Hate Myself for Loving You” inspired the melody for “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night”).
The Oklahoma native also recently talked about her love of hard rock in a special SiriusXM interview that combined her satellite radio channel, Carrie’s Country, with SiriusXM’s heavy rock channel, Octane.
