Vampire Weekend share “Mary Boone” video ft. Despot driving through the Lincoln Tunnel
There’s just over a week until Vampire Weekend‘s anticipated new album Only God Was Above Us arrives on April 5, and they’ve given us a final early taste with the fourth single, “Mary Boone,” which was inspired by the “The New Queen of the Art Scene” in NYC, as she was named by New York Magazine in 1982. It features a sample of the drum loop from Soul II Soul’s “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me),” and an operatic choir of backing vocals.
The accompanying video, directed by Andrew Nisinson, features NYC rapper Despot driving through the Lincoln Tunnel from Hoboken into Manhattan. Watch it below.
Vampire Weekend will celebrate the release of Only God Was Above Us with a special Austin show during the total eclipse on April 8 at Moody Amphitheater, which they’re also streaming live for free starting at 1 PM ET.
Their tour includes NYC shows at Madison Square Garden on October 5 and 6 with Billy Joel tribute band Turnstiles on both dates, plus Mark Ronson on night one and The Brothers Macklovitch on day two.
