I used images from various achievements of mankind to represent this: videos from social movements, images of atoms, a picture of the center of our galaxy, and more. It’s amazing to see theories become reality through human action. “THE ABSURD HOPE OF STARSHIP DESTINY” is built on a feeling of inspiration and possibility that these triumphs have inspired in me.”

“Musically, I used various sounds from humanity, from crowd noise to cameras to rockets. The space that I created is one that develops in volume, intensity, and complexity. It builds and builds until you are launched into a dream state and stripped of your sense of sonic space by a chaotic low bass floor and a piercing mystical synth. Finally, I shock you with the pure sound of the synth washing over your ears with intense delight,” explained Smeethan.

He added: “I used the sounds of crowds and man made inventions to provide a sense of humanity’s development and represent the upsurge of human voices in our world. We started with a few thousand humans and have grown to over seven billion. As a result, we have been able to create wondrous technology that can serve our every need. I feel this is propelling us toward the future. We often forget that we are not alone, but rather there are millions of people out there bettering our world through scientific and social works of wonder.”
