SUMAC and Moor Mother announce collab album, share “Scene 1”
If you heard the Moor Mother remix of SUMAC‘s “World of Light” last year and wanted more where that came from, you’re in luck. They’ve teamed up for a collaborative album, The Film, due April 25 via Thrill Jockey. The first taste is opening track “Scene 1,” which marries Moor Mother’s stream-of-consciousness spoken word to a backdrop of noise from SUMAC’s supergroup-worthy lineup of Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Mamiffer, etc), Brian Cook (Russian Circles, Botch, These Arms Are Snakes) and Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists, ex-The Armed). On this song, Moor Mother has the demeanor and the subject matter of an activist speaking at a civil rights rally as she takes on the past, present, and future of government corruption. It’s a very powerful track and you can hear it below.
SUMAC and Moor Mother will do their first live performances together at Berlin’s Festsaal Kreuzberg and the Netherlands’ Roadburn Festival in April. Those dates happen in the mast of a SUMAC European tour. All dates are listed below.
