Roberta Flack is reportedly recovering after she was rushed to the hospital during an event at the Apollo Theater in New York on Friday night (April 20).

According to TMZ, the soul icon was scheduled to receive an award at the charity concert for the Jazz Foundation America when she fell ill. The 81-year-old singer-songwriter complain dizziness before receiving her honor, and because her age and previous stroke, her handlers felt the need to call the paramedics.

FDNY told the website that they arrived around 8:50PM ET after receiving a call for a “sick person.” Flack was immediately rushed to a hospital in Harlem.

Flack’s rep told TMZ that the singer has checked out the hospital, however, doctors are still running tests to determine why she fell ill during the event. Since Flack had a stroke in 2016, doctors want to make sure this is not related to the stroke.

Flack is one our beloved music icons whose hits included the classic ballads "Killing Me Stly," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," "Feel Like Makin' Love," "The Closer I Get To You" (featuring Donny Hathaway) and so many more.
