Rising neo-soul singer Cheynader playing Baby’s with Ovrkast, has a new song with MAVI, and more
Like her formative influence Billie Eilish, Orlando artist Cheynader has been having her big breakthrough moment before even graduating high school. In 2022, she went viral for her breakout song “Fall” (it currently has over 9 million Spotify streams), a hazy neo-soul song that Cheynader made after downloading an “Earl Sweatshirt type beat” off YouTube and channeling her love of ’50s and ’60s pop music like The Four Freshman, Anita Kerr Singers, and Doris Day. She kept those vibes going on her 2023 debut EP Blue Oblivion, got a co-sign from Tyler, the Creator later that year, and teamed up with abstract rapper MAVI for her new single “Colors” this past April. Now, she announced a NYC show with another abstract rapper (and fellow MAVI collaborator), Ovrkast, happening on June 20 at Baby’s All Right. Tickets are on sale.
