Reese Witherspoon Votes for Kamala Harris: ‘Protect Democracy at All Costs’
‘A Critical Time’
“Top of my mind, as I considered all candidates, is protecting women’s rights to medical privacy and reproductive choice,” Witherspoon said
Reese Witherspoon cast her ballot on Friday, joining an extensive list of celebrities who’ve voiced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I voted today. Top of my mind, as I considered all candidates, is protecting women’s rights to medical privacy and reproductive choice,” Witherspoon wrote on Instagram Friday. “This is a critical time in our shared history to vote for the candidate that represents the future we want to see. That’s why I voted for Kamala Harris for President. For my daughter and for the millions of hard-working American women who value our freedoms.”
“I want to protect democracy at all costs,” Witherspoon continued. “I love my country and no matter what happens in this election, I’m here to move our great nation forward in a unified way.”
Witherspoon’s shown support for Harris in the past. After she was selected as the vice presidential candidate on Joe Biden’s ticket in 2020, Witherspoon recalled her own childhood dreams of becoming the first female president. “Now you know that YOU too can work hard, dedicate your life to service and show up every day to help others, and YOU can RISE to become a Vice Presidential nominee in the United States of America,” Witherspoon wrote at the time.
The country is approaching the final stretch before Election Day on Nov. 5. Cardi B, who previously said she wouldn’t vote for Joe Biden, is set to make an appearance at Harris’s rally in Milwaukee Friday. Harris and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will both spend the day before the election at rallies in Pittsburgh, with Pennsylvania being one of the key battleground states this election cycle.
