Ol’ Dirty Bastard documentary out in August

Late Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard is the subject of a new documentary. Originally announced in 2022, Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys will premiere on A&E on Sunday, August 25 at 9 PM ET/8 PM CT, and be available to stream on-demand starting the next day. It’s the first official, authorized documentary of the rapper, who passed away in 1994, and it includes a look at a previously-unseen personal archive shot by his widow, Icelene Jones.

A Tale of Two Dirtys is co-directed by Sam Pollard (Mr. Soul!, Sammy Davis, Jr.: I’ve Gotta Be Me, MLK/FBI) and his son Jason Pollard (Get Me Roger Stone, Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James), who had access to ODB’s parents, his Wu-Tang Clan bandmates, his widow and son, Bar-Sun Jones, and others.

“I am so happy to have brought this documentary about my husband’s life to the screen,” Icelene says. “Like all of hip-hop, I have missed his energy. This project has let me know that he is alive and well in all of our hearts.”

November 15, his birthday, was declared Ol’ Dirty Bastard Day in NYC last year, and there’s also a podcast that tells his life story. You can pick up an action figure inspired by his single “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” in the BV store now.
