Detroit, MI – Prominent Detroit Hip Hop artist DJ Slick B was reportedly shot and killed on Friday (February 7).
According to ABC 7 Detroit, the 28-year-old Motor City legend (real name Byron Gilbert) was with another man around 7:25 p.m. local time when a suspect attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
Both men were shot during the confrontation. Although the other man survived, the Wayne Country Medical Examiner’s Office said Slick B died from his injuries at Sinai Grace Hospital later that night.

Luxx Media Group CEO Jade Renee said, “Byron was a phenomenal person, a family man, a DJ, a friend to us, a loved one to many and an all around pure motivation for our city Detroit. All he ever wanted to do was put on for Detroit in the most positive, authentic way.
“It’s a complete tragedy and heartbreak that this unfortunate event occurred. This is truly a hard loss for us all. My prayers and condolences go out to his family, his children and the entire city Detroit that is grieving during this sensitive time. We love you forever DJ Slick B.”
Motor City police said the suspected shooter escaped in a dark colored SUV. The incident took place near the Hemp Museum, where Slick B was scheduled to DJ that night.
