Marvel’s ‘Agatha All Along’: critics hail “perfect” show in rave first reviews

The reviews for the new Marvel television series Agatha All Along are in, and critics have described the show as “perfect” in a first set of rave reviews.

The show sees actor Kathryn Hahn reprise her role as witch Agatha Harkness, which she first played in the similarly praised WandaVision that arrived in 2021. It also stars Aubrey Plaza and Joe Locke and sees Agatha trying to reclaim her powers as she takes part in the ‘Witches’ Road Trials’.

The show has nine episodes in total and the first four have been widely praised by critics.

Justin Lawrence of Geekcentric said “this WandaVision spin-off keeps the mystery alive by casting a new bewitching spell”, adding that “Kathryn Hahn is perfection, embracing every wicked moment. The musical elements don’t just enhance—they enchant. This is the magic the #MCU needs”.

The Movie Podcast host Daniel Baptista called Hahn’s performance both “spellbinding” and “deliciously devious.”

He added on X/Twitter that the show is “PERFECT…for the spooky season and filled with BIG WITCH ENERGY…Kathryn Hahn is iconic as ever and delivers a deliciously devious and spellbinding performance. Joe Locke is a scene stealer. This is the most fun you’ll have feasting on a show this year.”

Michael Patterson of Bam Smack Pow meanwhile wrote on X/Twitter: “Agatha All Along is absolutely batshit crazy in all the right kinds of ways. Kathryn Hahn is a force, camping it up as Agatha Harkness like we all knew she would. The rest of the cast is also divine, and Joe Locke is a gem. Vivid, outlandish and brilliant.”

ScreenRant said the show was a “perfect follow-up to WandaVision” and added: “This series is insanely fun and engaging. It’s got that same captivating vibe as WandaVision. Absolutely love the ensemble cast portraying the Coven, and Kathryn Hahn is brilliant & Aubrey Plaza is outstanding!”

News of the new spin-off show was first revealed in November 2021, with Marvel revealing the title would be House of Harkness. This was then changed more, first to Darkhold Diaries then Coven of Chaos. Marvel also later posted a logo for the show with the title Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe.

Earlier this year, the final title of Agatha All Alonga nod to a song from WandaVision that went viral – was revealed by Marvel.

The track was recorded for the seventh episode of the Marvel and Disney+ series and was played when Kathryn’s Hahn’s character Agnes is revealed to be Agatha Harkness, a notorious witch. Agnes’ identity was then looked back upon in the series in a musical montage underscored by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez’ song.
