New Yorker Brian Piñeyro’s music as DJ Python is a vibe unlike any other—a moody fusion of deep house, downbeat electronica, and the swaggering cadences of dancehall reggae. For the inaugural release on Piñeyro’s Worldwide Unlimited label, he turns the spotlight on Henzo, a British musician with a similar sensibility. Over the past couple years, the Manchester producer—a member of the appropriately named Strange Riddims crew—has been putting his own esoteric stamp on dembow rhythms and upbeat club mutations. “For Your Consideration” is one of a pair of tracks (each presented in two different versions) that make up his EP for Worldwide Unlimited, Not Like This, Not Like You.

An early version of the song, written in 2018, paired rippling congas and electronic blips over a slow-motion four-to-the-floor beat, but the new EP’s “Sauna Mix” is a considerably woozier affair, swapping out straight-ahead kick drums for lurching syncopations and leaning hard into hazy clouds of dub delay. Something about those persistent echoes lends a particularly humid quality to Henzo’s already dank basement grooves (perhaps that’s the sauna referred to in the song’s subtitles). But the more you zero in on the track’s innumerable details, the more it starts to resemble a rainforest wilderness in its cascade of chirps, shrieks, and synthetic frog calls. Muggy and psychedelic, it’s seriously transporting.
