As fear surrounding the coronavirus pandemic grows, toilet paper and hand sanitizer have become hot commodities. Shelves at countless grocery stores around the globe have been cleared out, leaving many without the basics.
But evidently, Lil Yachty sees an opportunity. According to a recent Instagram post from the 22-year-old rapper, he’s selling designer toilet paper for $500 a pack.
“As u all may have heard, I went broke a while back so I’ve decided to flip designer toilet paper as a new career,” he captioned a photo the goods. “so bape toilet paper.. sure.. price May be a little steep.. but it’s a rare necessity currently.. so $500.”
Lil Boat’s carefully selected hashtags include a misspelling coronavirus and “#supreme #bape #ds #grailed #hypebeast #bathingape #cornavirus #turnup #oprasbanaccountoutnow #imbroke #toiletpaper4sale #niggasfuckedupinthecribsellintoiletpaper.”
Since the coronavirus outbreak first began, price-gouging has been through the ro. University the Arts London consumer psychologist Paul Marsden explained people are panic buying goods as a form “retail therapy” — despite the cost.
“It’s about ‘taking back control’ in a world where you feel out control,” he told CNBC. “More generally, panic buying can be understood as playing to our three fundamental psychology needs.”
