The U.K. singer released her sophomore LP in September
Jorja Smith stopped by The Tonight Show to perform two of her songs, “Falling or Flying” and “Little Things.” Appearing with a live band, Smith gave the tracks an emotive, soulful vibe, combining them into one longer performance.
“Falling or Flying” and “Little Things” come off Smith’s recent sophomore LP, Falling or Flying, which dropped in September. The album follows her 2018 debut, Lost & Found, and was made with producer duo DAMEDAME* in her hometown of Walsall.
“I don’t slow down enough,” Smith explained of the LP in a statement. “This album is like my brain. There’s always so much going on but each song is definitely a standstill moment. It touches on breakups, relationships with my friends, relationships with old friends, relationships with myself. It’s definitely about a lot of relationships, but every song I write, I can sing it to myself.”
Last month, Smith sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss the album and her overall career. “I’ve stepped into being a woman in the making of it,” she said of the new music. “Loads of songs are talking about other things, and then I’ll sing them in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Oh, this is about me.’”
She added that therapy has helped her with a creative breakthrough. “I’ve just been able to look at myself differently,” she said. “That’s helped me let go. Honestly, I used to dwell on things or get obsessed with things in my head.”
