Famed producer Jermaine Dupri will become the second act to be ushered into the Songwriters Hall Fame this year. According to Variety, Dupri, along with legendary soul/funk band Kool & the Gang, will be inducted at its June 14 ceremony.

Dupri’s induction comes a year after JAY-Z became the first rapper to be enshrined in the Hall. Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years.

Dupri is undoubtedly one the best producers in the music game having created No. 1 hits for Mariah Carey, Usher, TLC and Monica, just to name a few. As the CEO his influential label So So Def, Dupri delivered chart-topping superstars Kriss Kross, Xscape, Bow Wow, Jagged Edge, Da Brat and more to the music culture.

“The 2018 roster Songwriters Hall Fame inductees is a prodigious representation creators cross-genre hits, certain to resonate with everyone,” said Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, the organization’s co-chairs.

Linda Moran, the president and CEO the SHOF, added, “Each year, the slate songwriters we induct is more diverse and illustrative the history and contributions that we strive to acknowledge and honor.”

The Songwriters Hall Fame’s 49th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on June 14.
