Jay-Z and Nas’ unreleased 1996 collab on a Shaq song officially out for the first time ever
Years before Jay-Z and Nas‘ highly publicized feud that resulted in the legendary diss tracks “Takeover” and “Ether,” they appeared on a track together by NBA star turned rapper Shaquille O’Neal that was never officially released. As Tom Breihan recapped on Stereogum this morning, the track made its way around the internet during the file-sharing days under the name “Analyze This,” and people wondered if it was actually a real collaboration or just the work of a mash-up DJ. Fast forward to 2024, it’s been confirmed that the collab was indeed real, and actually titled “No Love Lost,” and the song was officially released today as part of a reissue of Shaq’s 1996 album You Can’t Stop the Reign.
It’s Jay-Z and Nas’ first-ever collaboration (they would appear on multiple songs together after their feud), and it was produced by Trackmasters and also features Lord Tariq. If you’ve never heard any of the leaked versions, you’re in for a treat. This is Jay-Z and Nas circa Reasonable Doubt and It Was Written, as hungry as they could be.
