A decade ago, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam and Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell teamed up for a covers album. They’ve now gone and done it again, but in EP form. The indie-folk artists will release the five-track Making Good Time on September 12. Leading the EP is a cover of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s chart-topping GNX song “Luther.” Hear the new rendition below.
Making Good Time will include Beam and Bridwell’s covers of “Luther,” U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is,” Roxy Music’s “More Than This,” and Boygenius’ “Ketchum, ID.” The musicians made the EP with producer Brad Cook and the house band at his studio in North Carolina.
“I chose to focus on ‘Luther’ after kinda hitting a wall wondering which songs would be best to contribute,” Bridwell explained in a press release. “After much hand-wringing, it hit me, ‘Why not just do my favorite song?’ I’d been playing the then–newly released GNX album on repeat and that song in particular with my girls to the point of exhaustion.”
Iron & Wine and Band of Horses will follow Making Good Time with a co-headlining tour of the United States. See the schedule below.
