Hildur Guðnadóttir wins Golden Globe for Best Original Score for Joker
She is the first woman to win the award on her own and the second in almost two decades.
Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir has won Best Original Score at the 2020 edition of the Golden Globes for her score for Joker.
She was awarded the prize over Randy Newman, Alexandre Desplat, Thomas Newman and Daniel Pemberton. In her acceptance speech she thanked director Todd Phillips for “inviting me on the journey of a lifetime, for all the trust and your faith and your openness”, and Joaquin Phoenix “for making my job really easy with a spectacular, unbelievable performance.”
Guðnadóttir is the first woman to win the award solo in the history of the Golden Globes. She is also the first woman to win the award since Lisa Gerrard shared the prize with Han Zimmer in 2000 for their score for Gladiator.
Phoenix was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck in Joker. Other notable prizes went to Taron Egerton, who won Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman, and Elton John, who won Best Original Song for ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’.
The award for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television went to Chernobyl, to which Hildur Guðnadóttir also contributed the score.
