‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ returning to cinemas for 25th anniversary
Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone is being re-released in cinemas later this year for its 25th anniversary.
The cinematic re-release will take place between August 27 and September 3 as part of a bigger programme of events to celebrate 25 years of the film franchise. It will be accompanied by ten minutes of ten minutes of behind-the-scenes extras which the wider public have never seen before.
Warner Bros Discovery has promised that “Wizards, Witches and Muggles worldwide can look forward to fan-focused experiences, spectacular screenings, exclusive products, and more.”
The period from March to May is being dubbed Butterbeer Season, where pop-up Butterbeer trucks will pop up in cities around the world, offering limited edition drinks and exclusive merch.
There will also be a range of events and activities taking place on July 31, Harry Potter’s birthday.

In addition, Warner Bros Studio Tour London will be running a special celebration of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone this summer, with iconic artefacts introduced in the first film from the Golden Snitch to the Philosopher’s Stone itself on display.

The original film was released in 2001, catapulting then-child stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint to fame. They were joined on screen by acclaimed British actors including Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman and Ralph Fiennes.
J.K. Rowling‘s seven-book series is receiving a new adaptation for TV taking place over a mammoth 10-year period, with one novel being the focus of each season beginning in early 2027. According to Warwick Davis, the adaptation will be “very faithful” to Rowling’s books.
The show has been mired in controversy due to Rowling receiving significant backlash for her anti-trans comments, and her support of the UK Supreme Court ruling last year that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.
Meanwhile, fans have shared mixed reactions online after it was revealed that Hans Zimmer is set to compose the score for the season in contrast to the films’ iconic score by John Williams.
