Exclusive Interview With Emerging Multi-Faceted Artist Finding Chase
Finding Chase is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Missouri. Finding Chase’s new single, “Butterflies” was dropped July 30, 2021. “Butterflies” is rooted in rap but its vibe is relaxing, ambient, and spacey. It is also the first song he intentionally wrote for someone.
In parallel, Finding Chase is working on multiple projects to be released in the upcoming weeks.
Congratulations on your latest release, ”Butterflies”, we loved it!
Thank you so much, that really does mean a lot to me.
Tell us more about this new track and what inspired you to create it?
I initially wrote Butterflies for a previous lover. Lyrically, I wanted to reminisce about some experiences we shared together in the earlier years of our relationship. Instrumentally, my goal was to melodically represent the bliss of such moments. That’s the first verse of the song. The second verse is a little more complicated, but ultimately it’s about transformation. It contains some personal insights of mine after parting ways with someone I was willing to give up music for.
What style best describes “Butterflies”?
I like to use moods and feelings to describe the style of a song. I focus on the feelings I’m trying to express and craft what feels natural. That’s what drives my process of creating. For Butterflies, those feelings are bliss, happiness, and relaxation portrayed through ambient chill rap.
We’ve read that you love mixing-up genres, where does that come from? Have you always done so?
Yes I like switching things up! I would say my inclination to mix genres is the product of my background of playing instruments fused with my passion for digital music production. I wouldn’t necessarily say I have always been so eclectic in mashing music. My early compositions were definitely more rooted in rock and acoustic music because that’s what I knew. Over the years I’ve become more adventurous about paving my own path.
Is there an event or thought that radically impacted your decision to become an artist, or did it just happen gradually?
Tough one. To a larger degree, I think it’s primarily been a gradual process, but with some encouraging events along the way. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to create music. The problem then was a lack of direction and confidence in myself as an artist. Take my latest release Butterflies for example: I finished most of that song 3 years ago (with a minor re-write after some impactful life events) but never did anything with it. To be completely honest, going through a divorce in 2020 was the event that pulled me out of my shell. I rebuilt myself that year and let my insecurities around artistry go. I’ve never been more committed to this than I am now.
Are you open to collaborations with other artists? If yes, who?
I am definitely open to collaborations with other artists. I actually have a couple songs on the back burner that feature fellow musicians. Expect those, but be patient while I’m juggling everything (I have an archive of older songs to get out and I’m writing new stuff weekly). If I could specifically choose to do a collaboration with any other artist, I would throw down on a track with Mike Shinoda. I grew up listening to his work and undoubtedly take an influence from him.
Are you planning more releases this year? Would you like to share any upcoming news with our audience?
Absolutely, there is more coming this year! The following 2 songs are already in the books for 2021. I will be hitting the studio this fall to record a small collection of acoustic songs. There’s a good chance my listeners will get their first taste of that project as early as this December.
