Toronto DJ and producer Bambii is a queer club innovator whose exhilarating, rave-ready songs exist at the crossroads of jungle, dancehall, drum’n’bass, and UK garage. As a person of Jamaican descent, she often harkens back to ’90s Caribbean transnational dance scenes in her music, whether it’s on Kelela’s “On the Run” or her own humid song “Nitevision.” Her latest single “One Touch” is a wild, off-the-cuff melange of siren-like synths and warped dancehall samples, which rush in and out of the song’s breakbeats like a marathon of fluffy boots and mesh bodysuits on the dancefloor. Bambii leans on alien, pitched-up vocals and juicy, rapid rhythms for a futuristic offering where queer party legends can down Red Stripes and feel the rapture.
