Angel Bat Dawid announces LP w/ Hanne De Backer & Signe Emmeluth, giving ‘LIVE’ vinyl release
Contemporary jazz great Angel Bat Dawid has been very busy lately. Last fall, she released the live album LIVE (which we highlighted as one of 2020’s best jazz albums), and then she remixed an Alan Braufman song (off his album which we included on that same jazz list), appeared on The Notwist’s new album, and announced a collaboration with poet Ross Gay for Jagjaguwar’s 25th anniversary celebration, and she’s also a member of Damon Locks – Black Monument Ensemble who just announced a new album and released an excellent lead single.
Now, Angel has announced a collaborative album with saxophonist/composer Signe Emmeluth and saxophonist/theater performer Hanne De Backer, which was recorded live by Koen Vandenhoudt at the Summer Bummer Festival in Antwerp on August 24, 2019. According to the announcement, “The three musicians agreed to play for the first time together due to a cancellation at the festival, having only met for the first time just hours before taking the stage.”
Angel Bat Dawid / Hanne De Backer / Signe Emmeluth comes out April 30 via Smalltown Supersound’s Actions For Free Jazz imprint, and it’s split into just two tracks, “Side A” and “Side B.” You can hear a particularly frenzied, avant-garde-leaning excerpt of “Side B” now.
Angel also revealed today that LIVE is getting a double vinyl/CD release this Friday (3/5) internationally and on April 9 in North America. You can pre-order it from International Anthem’s Bandcamp.
