Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell played Irving Plaza (pics, setlist)

Alice in Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell played NYC's Irving Plaza on Tuesday night supporting 2021's Brighten, his first solo album in 18 years. Jerry put together an all-star band for this tour, including composer and former Marilyn Manson guitarist Tyler Bates, former Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato on backing vocals, former Dillinger / Marilyn Manson drummer Gil Sharone, and pedal steel player Michael Rozon, all of whom played on Brighten, as well as bassist George Adrian, and keyboardist Jason Achilles.

Tuesday was also the 20th anniversary of Alice in Chains' frontman Layne Staley's death, and while there was no mention of that, Staley's presence was felt in the set, which was heavy on AIC classics, including "Them Bones," which opened the show, "Man in the Box" (with Puciato on lead vocals), "Would?," "No Excuses," "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Check My Brain," and more.

Jerry played lots of solo songs, too, including "My Song" and "Cut You In," and Lola Colette, who opened the night, joined Jerry for Brighten track "Black Hearts and Evil Done."
