Boards Of Canada Return With Trippy New Tracks ‘Introit’ and ‘Prophecy At 1420 MHz’
Electronic music pioneers Boards Of Canada have officially returned, sharing the first two tracks from their highly anticipated comeback album, Inferno. Fans can now listen to the atmospheric double A-side, ‘Introit’ and ‘Prophecy At 1420 MHz’.
The Scottish duo is set to release their fifth studio album on May 29 via Warp. Inferno serves as the long-awaited follow-up to their 2013 masterpiece, Tomorrow’s Harvest. The new record will be available in various physical formats as well as digital, with pre-orders currently open.

‘Introit’ functions as a haunting, retro-futurist prelude, characterized by its spectral, scrambling synths. It is paired with ‘Prophecy At 1420 MHz’, a hypnotic, slowly evolving track that draws its name from the specific deep-space frequency associated with the search for extra-terrestrial life. The song features muffled, mutated vocals that seem to drift through a sea of static.

The band’s return was teased through a global poster campaign featuring designs reminiscent of their 1998 debut, Music Has The Right To Children, which were spotted in cities including London, New York, and Tokyo. These physical clues were followed by reports of fans receiving mysterious VHS tapes containing audio from a defunct 1991 Christian bible school magazine.
Tomorrow’s Harvest, which was widely acclaimed upon its release, was described in a 2013 NME review as a “dark, often uncomfortable affair,” contrasting sharply with the sunnier electronic sounds of the era. With Inferno, it appears the duo is ready to reclaim their position as the definitive architects of atmospheric, experimental electronic music.
