Jack Antonoff Calls Out Ticketmaster Over Scalper Claims

Jack Antonoff has taken a sharp swipe at Ticketmaster following the ticketing giant’s claims that they successfully “caught” scalpers attempting to purchase tickets for Harry Styles’ upcoming residency at Madison Square Garden.

Last month, the organization announced it had identified and neutralized a network of scalpers who were utilizing multiple accounts to bypass purchase limits, allegedly securing thousands of illegal tickets. Ticketmaster stated that they had cancelled these transactions and returned the inventory to the market for “authentic” fans to purchase at face value.

However, the Bleachers frontman and acclaimed producer was far from convinced by the company’s self-congratulatory tone. Responding to an X post from Ticketmaster that detailed their efforts to protect fans, Antonoff wrote a blunt, four-word rebuttal: “You caught you?”

Antonoff has long been a vocal critic of the live music industry’s ticketing practices. He has previously spoken out against dynamic pricing models, arguing that the current system creates unnecessary barriers for fans. “There’s no reason why – if I can go online and buy a car and have it delivered to my house, why can’t I buy a fucking ticket at the price that the artist wants it to be?” he stated in 2023. “Don’t turn a live show into a free market. That’s really dirty.”

Beyond ticketing, the artist has consistently advocated for better conditions for performers, including calling on venues to stop taxing merchandise sales and criticizing large corporations that monopolize the industry while reporting massive earnings.

The tension surrounding Ticketmaster’s operations reached a boiling point recently when a jury ruled that its parent company, Live Nation, had been operating as an illegal monopoly. While Live Nation has reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice to avoid a forced breakup, the legal landscape remains complex, with ongoing state-led actions and scrutiny from lawmakers regarding the transparency and fairness of the ticketing market.
