It will be their first record since the 2023 death of founding member David Jude Jolicoeur, who was also known as Trugoy, Dave, and Trugoy the Dove.

“’Cabin in the Sky’ lives in that space between loss and light,” Posdnuos said in a press release. “It’s about the pain we carry and the joy that somehow still finds us. This album is therapy and celebration at the same time. There’s a vulnerability in these songs, because everything we’ve been through has brought us to this moment, to this album, honoring what we’ve lost and lifting up what still remains. That duality. That’s life, and that’s De La.”

‘Cabin in the Sky’ is led by the single, ‘The Package’, which you can listen to below. The rest of the album includes contributions from producers DJ Premier, Super Dave, and Pete Rock, as well as guests Killer Mike, Little Dragon’s Yukimi, Common, Nas, and the Roots’ Black Thought.

Speaking to Pitchfork, Posdnuos said that he and Maseo started working on the record in February 2025 after Mass Appeal’s Peter Bittenbender approached them about participating in the label’s “Legend Has It” campaign.

Through the campaign, there have been new albums from Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, and the late Big L. The label is planning one more record, a collaboration between Nas and DJ Premier.

“It was my mission to make sure that Dave’s true energy was felt throughout the entire record,” he Posdnuos said.

NME spoke to De La Soul last March, where the band opened up on the loss of Trugoy The Dove. Speaking about his favourite memory of Trugoy, Maseo said: “One of our favourite movies was Beat Street. It was something we cherished over our career, and it would always come on the tour busses. The conversations and quotes from the movie and all of that, we would throw back and forth through the years, me, Pos and Dave.

“So for Pos to come to me and be like, ‘Yo, Dave is our Ramon, man. We have to celebrate Ramon. We have to turn this whole release of the catalog into celebrating our Ramon.’ When he said that, he was right. The moments are still bittersweet, but that was definitely something that was able to give me some light and inspiration to want to continue to carry the flag.”
