Leikeli47 announces new album, takes off the mask
Brooklyn rapper Leikeli47 has announced her first new album since the Beauty trilogy, and she’s taking off the mask. “It feels right. It’s time. The mask served its purpose, and now we move forward,” she says.
Titled Lei Keli ft. 47 / For Promotional Use Only, it’s also her first independent release after releasing the Beauty trilogy albums on RCA, and it features production from the same core team that worked on those albums. Leikeli47 herself and Harold Lilly executive produced, and Neal Pogue (OutKast, Tyler the Creator, etc) mixed.
The release date is TBA, but first single “450” is out now, and it’s a great example of Leikeli’s ability to fuse hip hop and dance music. “‘450’ is my declaration of commitment to the people and this art form,” she says. “I don’t just love what I do, I’m in love with what I do; and there’s no stopping me. I’m just heating up.” It comes with a black-and-white video directed by Masood Ahmed, in which Leikeli makes the unmasking official. Check it out below.
