Robert Glasper will again spend October at NYC’s Blue Note Jazz Club; he’s announced his sixth annual “Robtober” residency at the venue, which will run from October 2 through November 3 will two shows each night. Guests will include Raye, Questlove, Common, Andra Day, Doobie Powell, Little Brother, Chris Dave, Derrick Hodge, Jahi Sundance, Stokley, and more to be announced, and tickets are on sale now. In addition to the Blue Note shows, Glasper will play a special tribute show to Casey Benjamin at Sony Hall on October 30, which is also with Chris Dave, Derrick Hodge, Stefon Harris, and more. Proceeds will go to the Casey Benjamin Memorial Fund.

Glasper also has a new album out today, Code Derivation, which is exclusive to Apple Music. It features Jamari, MMYYKK, Oswin Benjamin, and Taylor McFerrin, with production from Riley Glasper, MMYYKK, Hi-Tek, Black Milk, Taylor McFerrin, and Karriem Riggins. Here’s more about it:

Code Derivation is largely made up of two versions of the same tracks — one played live in studio by Glasper’s band and a version “flipped” by a producer of his choosing. “Jazz is literally in the beginning bones of hip-hop,” Glasper says. “That’s why I even used the word ‘derivation,’ because it’s a derivative of jazz. I’ve played with the masters of both of these genres, so I wanted to do a project where it’s like, ‘Hey, I’m going to do jazz songs that I wrote with my band — with my friends — and I’m going to get dope producers that are my friends to sample me.”
