Tinashe details new album ‘Quantum Baby,’ shares “Getting No Sleep”

Over a decade into her solo career, Tinashe has had one of her biggest breakthroughs yet, with recent single “Nasty,” which became her first charting hit since 2014’s “2 On” after going viral on TikTok (you may know it as the “Is somebody gonna match my freak?” song). Now she announced her next album, Quantum Baby, featuring both “Nasty” and her just-released new single “Getting No Sleep.” It was produced by and co-written with Nosaj Thing and Billy Lemos, and it’s a bass-heavy, airy R&B song that sounds like classic Tinashe and makes for a great followup to “Nasty.” Check it out below. The album comes out August 16 via Nice Life (pre-order).

Tinashe says that Quantum Baby is the second album in a planned trilogy that began with 2023’s BB/ANG3L. “Quantum Baby is about getting to know me on a deeper level,” she says. “It’s about exploring who I am as a person and who I am as an artist. I’ve never been one to be put into a box, so the name Quantum Baby encompasses all the different parts that make up who I am as a creative”.

In a recent interview with Vulture, she added, “I feel like the title’s kind of manifesting this reintroduction or this Tinashe renaissance. There are so many paradoxes in quantum theory. Even the success of “Nasty” is just so mysterious and beautiful and interesting. My intention behind Quantum Baby was that I really wanted people to get down to the granular essence of my music and artistry and who I am as a person. I wanted to explore the paradoxes there, to show people an intimate, tiniest unit of measurement type of thing. BB/ANG3L really represented who I am right now and the kind of music that I’m experimenting with, so I wanted to go even further with the next part.”

Tinashe also recently released the Match My Freak EP with remixes of “Nasty” by UNIIQU3, Jane Remover, OG Ron C & DJ Candlestick, Wuki, and DJ Tunez. Listen to that below too.

For those in NYC, you can catch Tinashe at the Pride Month festival LadyLand tonight (6/28).
