‘Fable’ reboot will launch in 2025 and feature Peep Show’s Super Hans

Microsoft has confirmed the Fable reboot will launch in 2025 and feature Peep Show star Matt King.

A reboot of Fable was first confirmed in 2020, 10 years after the last mainline entry in the series, with head of studios Matt Booty comparing it to making a new Star Wars film. “There’s stuff that everyone wants you to bring along, but then you’ve got a responsibility to take that to new places,” he added in an interview at the time.

After years of development (and a little back and forth between Microsoft and developers Playground Games), it was confirmed yesterday (June 9) that Fable would be releasing at some point in 2025 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

The news came as part of the Xbox Games Showcase and featured a new trailer that gave fans a more in-depth look at the world of Albion. The two-minute clip introduces players to retired hero Humphrey, who is played by Matt King, best known for his portrayal of Super Hans in Peep Show.

“What does it mean to be a Hero,” asks the description of the trailer. “Humphry, once one of the greatest, will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens Albion’s very existence.“

King isn’t the only legend of British comedy to star in the game either. Last year, The IT Crowd star Richard Ayoade featured as a disgruntled citizen of Fable’s world, tired of dealing with bothersome heroes.

A new Life Is Strange game Double Exposure from Deck Nine was also announced during the Xbox Games Showcase yesterday, alongside new Doom game The Dark Ages and prequel Gears Of Wars title E-Day.

Microsoft also shared an in-depth look at upcoming Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 via a campaign trailer and announced new coming-of-age game Mixtape, soundtracked by the likes of Devo, Roxy Music, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lush, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Joy Division.
