Watch Noel Gallagher join The Black Keys to perform ‘On The Game’ on ‘Later… With Jools Holland’
Noel Gallagher has joined The Black Keys for a performance of their track ‘On The Game’ on Later… With Jools Holland.
The performance took place on the iconic music show over the weekend, and was broadcast by BBC on Saturday evening (June 1). In the episode, The Black Keys joined Holland as guests, and broke out a couple of tracks from their latest album ‘Ohio Players’.
First, they played ‘Beautiful People (Stay High)’, the lead single from the LP which they dropped back in January, alongside the announcement of the album. This was followed by a rendition of ‘On The Game’ – which they performed alongside Britpop icon and former Oasis star Noel Gallagher.
The collaboration on the night came as Gallagher is credited as a co-writer on the track, as well as others on the album: ‘You’ll Pay’ and ‘Only Love Matters’. The High Flying Birds frontman also contributed backing vocals and electric guitar to the cuts throughout the LP.
It comes as the US duo – comprising Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney – recently wrapped up the UK and Ireland leg of their ‘International Players Tour’.

Gallagher’s performance with The Black Keys as part of Later… With Jools Holland also comes just weeks after he joined them on stage at one of their shows in London. Taking place on May 7, during the first of the duo’s three dates at the O2 Academy Brixton, the band invited the former Oasis musician to perform with them in the encore.
Before then, The Black Keys spoke to NME last year and recalled their time working with the “incredible” songwriter in the studio.
“He’s hilarious and super talented,” said Carney. “We were referring to him as ‘The Chord Lord’ because he’s just a perfectionist with it.”
He continued: “Dan and I are big fans of him and Liam. Actually, the Liam song ‘Everything’s Electric’ is why we decided to work with [producer Greg] Kurstin.”
The High Flying Birds frontman later called the three Black Keys songs he contributed to “fucking amazing”.
In a three-star review of ‘Ohio Players’, NME described the Gallagher-featuring ‘On The Game’ as “a honeyed guitar jam”.

As for the album on the whole, it concluded: “The Black Keys might have a killer record collection but ‘Ohio Players’ is the work of a band who are perhaps too good at being themselves.”
The appearance on Jools Holland also comes after news broke that the band would be cancelling the entirety of their North American tour.
Initially the news left fans dismayed, and the members later opened up about the cancellation, saying it was scrapped and re-planned in favour of smaller theatre venues as featured on their recent European dates.
“The band wants to assure everyone that Dan and Patrick are alive and well,” their statement began.
“Following the recent run of shows in the UK and Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the ‘International Players’ Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly.”
