Hip-hop legend DJ Mister Cee, RIP
Hip-hop legend and radio personality DJ Mister Cee has died at age 57. Via XXL, the news came via Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg, who wrote, “We have lost the iconic Mister Cee. I listened to him yesterday and am in complete shock. He was a dear friend to all of us, a wonderful man, and one of the most important and impactful DJs of all time. I love you Cee.”
Born in 1966 in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, Calvin LeBrun met Atonio Hardy in high school and their love of rap led to Hardy adopting the name Big Daddy Kane and LeBrun going by DJ Mister Cee. As part of the Juice Crew, he was the DJ on Big Daddy Kane’s 1988 debut, Long Live the Kane, and he discovered The Notorious B.I.G. and was executive producer on Biggie’s debut album, Born to Die. LeBrun later became a prominent club DJ, had his own station on Grand Theft Auto IV and was a regular jock on Hot 97, RADIO 103.9, Sirius XM, and more.

RIP Mister Cee. Not just a tremendous show, radio and party DJ but a champion of all things Brooklyn and a vector for some of the most important products that materialized in our culture from the borough. 🕊️ pic.twitter.com/vGqz2rV6LN

RIP Mister Cee. Legendary DJ, legendary mixtapes, and without him we wouldn’t have known about a kid from Bedstuy who went by Notorious B.I.G. pic.twitter.com/hAayafzsOn
