Jay-Z‘s Manhattan nightspot 40/40 Club has closed after 20 years. Eater reports that the club, located in the Flatiron District at 6 West 25th St, shut its doors at the end of July but its website says it will reopening in a new location in February 2024.

The 40/40 Club opened in 2003 and grew to five club/restaurants nationwide, including Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (which Jay-Z owned a stake in). The Vegas location closed in 2008 just a year after opening, and the Atlantic City branch closed after eight years in 2013.

The original Manhattan location underwent major renovations in 2011 with a Grand Reopening in 2012. Over the years club has been home to many high-profile celebrity events, including a Lebron James birthday party, and a J. Cole party celebrating his signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2012.

The club’s name is a reference to one of baseball’s most impressive stats: 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season. Only four MLB players have ever done it – Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998), Jose Canseco (1988), and Alfonso Soriano (2006). The 40/40 Club features memorabilia from not just baseball but other major American sporting events.
