Taking Back Sunday return with new single & video, “The One”

Taking Back Sunday have released “The One,” which follows the couple new songs they had on 2019’s Twenty compilation and their 2016 album Tidal Wave. The song was produced by pop producer Tushar Apte (Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato, etc) and mixed by veteran pop punk producer Neal Avron (New Found Glory, Fall Out Boy, etc). It also marks their debut for Fantasy Records. It’s a big, soaring, U2-sized rock song, and it brings back some of those classic Adam Lazzara/John Nolan dual vocals in a different light. The band calls the song “a sweet love song — full on John Cusack holding a boombox,” and adds:

This song came from a riff that Shaun Cooper wrote the day he lost his grandmother while she was in a nursing home at the start of the Covid pandemic. Devastated with overpowering sadness, he found comfort in writing music and initially titled the riff ‘Posivibes’ in an effort to find some light through the darkness. He never shared the story of the title or how that riff came together with us until after it was complete. Shaun didn’t want his story affecting the ultimate meaning of the song, because it’s actually an uplifting one.
