The Neptunes super duo, comprised Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, have collaborated with numerous artists over the course their career. From Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Kelis to Busta Rhymes and Diddy, their résumé speaks volumes.
During a recent interview with Clash, Hugo revealed The Neptunes are back in full swing and, par for the course, working with another laundry list notable artists. While discussing their new collaboration with Justin Timberlake, “Supplies,” Hugo joked that maybe they influenced Lil Nas X’s smash hit “Old Town Road.” He then mentioned The Neptunes were working on something with the 20-year-old breakout star.
“I’m joking,” he said. “I don’t think we influenced Lil Nas X. Actually, he was here in the studio the other day, we’re working on something for him. Hopefully we will] come up with some other sounds.”
When asked who else they were working with, Hugo replied, “I’m focusing on The Neptunes stuff, getting back on The Neptunes grind. We’re doing a couple things. There’s a video game soundtrack that’s in the works right now that I can’t speak about… We just did some work with Miley Cyrus, JAY-Z, Blink 182, Lil Uzi Vert, Brandy, Ray-J, Snoh Alegra, G-Eazy.”
Hugo also confirmed they are also working with Kaytranada and Dua Lipa.
“He was in the studio, we vibed in the studio, we recorded a couple things,” he said. “I don’t know if he used any the sounds but I love his work and his DJ’ing. …and Dua Lipa? Yeah, yeah. She was here. Pharrell saw that she was using the same studio so we recorded couple tracks. We’re still working on those.”
The Neptunes have worked with Hov in the past. In 2000, they linked up for the song “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me),” which comes the Hip Hop mogul’s fifth studio album, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia.
