As  all over the country in solidarity with police brutality victims, the protests continue to amplify. Seven people were shot at a protest Thursday night calling for justice for the police killing of Breonna Taylor.

Breonna Taylor was a 26-year-old Black woman who was shot eight times to death by three Louisville police officers on March 13th after they entered her apartment as part of a narcotics investigation. The Louisville Metro Police Department has yet to provide the public with many answers or details about the case.

Protestors gathered on Thursday in downtown Louisville, and the protests began peacefully. But, at some point, shots were fired. Right now, it is unclear who fired shots into the crowd, but Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher confirmed in a statement that no officers were involved. 

Mayor Fisher said in a video statement, “While the situation is unfolding we know there were several hours of peaceful protest before some in the crowd turned violent, leaving some people being shot from within the crowd.” He additionally extended sympathy to those mourning the loss of Breonna. 

The unrest in Louisville continues as  continue to call for justice. Louisville Councilwoman Keisha Dorsey defended the protestors, saying “It’s a revolt against a system in which people have felt oppressed,” she continued, “What I’m seeing is people who are trying their best to do something with their hurt, their pain and their frustration.”
