"Superman" Actress Margot Kidder's Death Officially Ruled Suicide

Margot Kidder was found dead in her home back in May, and the Superman actress was reported to have passed in her sleep. Kidder became a legend after playing Lois Lane alongside Christopher Reeve’s Superman. According to the Associated Press, it has been revealed that Kidder’s death was actually a suicide. Kidder lived in the Montana town of Livingston, which is a secluded area near Yellowstone National Park. A statement released Wednesday (Aug. 8) by Park County coroner Richard Wood said that Kidder “died as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose” and that no additional details would be issued.

Maggie McGuane, Kidder’s daughter by her ex-husband Thomas McGuane, claimed that she knew the moment she saw her mother’s body that it was a suicide. “It’s a big relief that the truth is out there,” McGuane stated. “It’s important to be open and honest so there’s not a cloud of shame in dealing with this.” Montana has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. “It’s a very unique sort of grief and pain,” McGuane added. “Knowing how many families in this state go through this, I wish that I could reach out to each one of them.”
